Lankum – The Rocky Road To Dublin (Live)

Lankum, the dark and boundary-pushing Irish folk band, has announced their new album, Live in Dublin, recorded over three sold-out nights at Dublin’s Vicar Street. The album, set to release on June 21 via Rough Trade Records, features live renditions of songs from across their discography, including the first official release of their live staple “The Rocky Road To Dublin.”

Since their acclaimed fourth album, False Lankum, the band has continued to ride a wave of success, culminating in a nomination for ‘Album of the Year’ at last year’s Mercury Music Prize. This live album captures the raw, uncompromising energy of their performances, offering listeners a chance to experience the intense and atmospheric soundscapes that define their music.

“The Rocky Road To Dublin,” a song with a strong lineage in Irish music, is performed with Lankum’s signature drone and haunting vocals, bringing out the character and oddity of its lyrics and jig-time signature. The live version underscores their ability to blend traditional folk elements with their experimental impulses, creating an evocative and immersive listening experience.

Lankum’s innovative approach to music-making is also reflected in the album’s cover art by Aisling Redmond, featuring a mysterious abyssal circle that could symbolize Dublin or the band’s own deep, introspective musical journey.
